Coiled Tubing & Pumping

Riser Based Coiled Tubing LWI Operation

Country:
UK
Year:
2016
Technologies:
Tension Adjusted Levelwind Operating System (TALOS), Real Time Coiled Tubing (RtC)

Riser based coiled tubing intervention executed from a light well intervention vessel.

  • Total Intervention Operation handled by LWI vessel (world 1st)
  • All runs undertaken with Realtime SRO
  • Rig up conducted offline saving time on location

CHALLENGE

To increase production from an existing online subsea well, the client required to conduct saturation logging to identify new zones of interest, to perforate the relevant zones, and to perform a well cleanout prior to putting the well back on line to minimise any risk of perforation debris causing damage to the FPSO. As only one subsea well was to be targeted in field, the economics of a conventional semi sub CT intervention were not viable. The operation hence was to be conducted from a Light Well Intervention Vessel (LWIV).

SOLUTION

The Altus Intervention engineering team proposed their Realtime Coiled Tubing system (RtC) run in conjunction with their Tension Adjusted Levelwind Operating System (TALOS). RtC provides realtime surface readout (SRO) of key downhole operating parameters, all logging data and the perforation initiation. The bespoke TALOS system, developed and operated by Altus Intervention, enabled Coiled Tubing operations to be undertaken from the LWI vessel – in this case the Helix Well Enhancer. The TALOS system manages the coil tension and spooling versus vessel heave compensation, mitigating against excessive coil fatigue due to vessel heave, and is seamlessly integrated with the LWIV ESD system. TALOS also provides for an offline rig up, conducted prior to mobilization, enabling the intervention to commence almost immediately upon arrival on location.

RESULTS

A total of 105,000 running feet of Coiled Tubing was carried out throughout the entire operation, including the relevant saturation logging and correlation runs, 4 runs/220ft of 3.5” HSD perforation guns, and a venturi junk basket Coiled Tubing cleanout operation. The TALOS system was rigged up within the compensated coiled tubing lift frame (CCTLF) and mobilized to location on board the LWIV, hence minimizing wellsite rig up time. The outcome of the intervention operation was a 25% increase in production.
